Channel Islands Squads Shine at Various Competitions

The squads of Channel Islands High School dominated several competitions during this winter season. It started at West Covina’s Winter Celebration last January 22, followed by Street Dance USA at Aliso Viejo on February 12, USA Southern California State Dance/Drill Championships at Fountain Valley on February 27 and South Bay Spirit Championship at West Torrance on March 5. All Female, All Male, Short Flags, Military Drill, Banners and Hip-Hop Coed delivered outstanding performances in each of these events. All Male garnered a standing ovation at the Street Dance Competition winning $200 and the title of High Point Winners. All Female team was undefeated champion in their division in all of the above competitions and received the same “Highest Point” award at West Torrance. The squads were challenged by dance teams from different high schools in Southern California including Glendale, West Covina, Mira Mesa, Cerritos, Alhambra, San Marcos, Carson, Tustin, Aliso Niguel, Valencia, Peninsula, Claremont, Bishop Montgomery, etc.

The squads competed for the National Titles on March 25-27 at Anaheim Convention Center. Winning National Titles were: Short Flags (1 Flag and 2 Flags), Small Military in open division and All Male won their second consecutive national title, but their first national title in the Large All Male Division. All Female finished second with only 0.1 point away from National Title. Coed Dance and Medium Military also finished second in their respective divisions. Their passion, dedication and quest for perfection led them to their outstanding performances. They are truly amazing and are considered as Channel Islands High School’s pride. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
