Roosevelt Bolden didn’t find out he would be making his varsity coaching debut until an hour before the game started.
Camarillo High girls basketball coach Michaeltore Smith had to serve a one-game suspension on Thursday afternoon after being ejected from a game last weekend.
Smith arrived at Bolden’s work at 3 p.m., handed him a clipboard and a bag of balls and told his assistant to bring back a win.
Bolden delivered as Camarillo used a strong fourth-quarter run to pull away and beat Thousand Oaks 46-29 in pool play of the Buena-Kiwanis Tournament at Buena High.
