When Dennis Riedmiller looks back on Camarillo High’s 63-22 win over Pacifica on Friday night, the No. 22 will stand out.

As often as Camarillo’s high-octane offense found the back of the end zone, it was the play of the Scorpions defense that caught the Camarillo coach’s attention.

The Scorpions’ win, coupled with Channel Islands’ 27-14 victory of Oxnard, leaves Camarillo (5-3, 3-0) all alone atop the Pacific View League standings.

“They have some big playmakers on that offense over there,” said Riedmiller, motioning to the Pacifica sideline. “Their quarterback, their running back, their receiver. They’re excellent football players. They’re excellent athletes, so we had our hands full and our goal was to keep them to 21. They got 22, so I’m very pleased with the way we played against them.”
