Oscar Sandoval wanted to run a naked bootleg.
The Oxnard quarterback remembered how successful the play was early on Friday night. With the Yellowjackets facing third-and-6 from the 10-yard line in overtime, Sandoval faked the handoff, bounced outside for an 8-yard gain and a crucial first down.
On the next play, Charles Beckley took the handoff and powered his way into the end zone for a touchdown to seal Oxnard’s 33-30 victory over host Rio Mesa on Friday night.
“The (linebackers) were biting on the tailback, so I told (coach Mark Beckham) to let me run it and it was there,” Sandoval said.
