DCAC EAOP

 

DCAC activities help support our school to increase our college enrollment rates and the program serves as a resource for all students at the school.
Our DCAC support activities include:

  • Individual drop-in college advising/preparation
  • Parent/guardian/family workshops/events
  • College information and preparation workshops
  • Financial aid/scholarship workshops

Many students in today’s high schools choose courses and work experiences in an unplanned, aimless manner, often resulting in limited career options and undeveloped potential.

 Innovative educators across the nation have responded by restructuring schools around career pathways. A career pathway is an integrated, multi-year sequence of career guidance, coursework, and

 work-based learning experiences that enables students to explore a variety of career choices and provides a context for learning.

Schools that are organized around career pathways give students an opportunity to use their experiences in the classroom and the workplace to help determine what they might or might not want to do, and gain a better understanding of the kinds of experience, skills, and education and training they will need to be successful in the workplace. The idea that students can begin to develop an initial career direction which provides a purpose and context for learning can motivate students, increase their achievement, and smooth the transition from school to work.

UCSB's course in The School for Scientific Thought (SST) is offering a STEM opportunity for high school students. 

The SST enrichment program is entirely free for high school students and offers small, research-based classes in science and technology at the University of California Santa Barbara. Each class spans 3 Saturdays, specifically on October 14, 21, and 28, with sessions running from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. As a bonus, a pizza lunch is provided to all enrolled students. These classes are planned for an in-person experience at UC Santa Barbara  

Online applications must be submitted by October 4th

Post Secondary Support from Mixed at Berkeley Recruitment and Retention Center:

Our names are Sanaiyah Garcia, Jada Rivas, and Jose Hernandez, and we are the K-12 Recruitment Directors for Mixed@Berkeley; a Recruitment & Retention Center on UC Berkeley’s campus that aims to provide resources that promote higher education to K-12 first-generation, low-income, students of color. 

We are currently reaching out to California high schools to announce the start of our annual UC Berkeley College Advising Program (UC-BCAP)!

UC-BCAP is a free, five week virtual college mxntorship program for first-generation, low-income, students of color attending high school in California

Students will be paired up with current UC Berkeley students and educated on important topics ranging from college applications and financial aid, to student life. We hope to bring an interactive and engaging mxntorship to graduating high school seniors seeking assistance with college applications, creating resumes, financial aid, and other inquiries about post-secondary education as a first-generation, low-income, student of color.

Our program will take place from October 15th- November 19th (just before the UC Application deadline).

All students will also receive a $15 DoorDash gift card for each week completed of the program.

 

This new challenge is a chance for young people in First Book communities nationwide to exercise their changemaking muscles; giving them a platform to share their bold ideas, get connected to other innovative kids, and tackle problems that matter to them.

  • Students in grades K-12 who attend First Book-eligible schools or community programs are invited to enter by submitting their idea and action plan to make an impact on an issue — large or small — that they care about through a secure online portal. 
  • The student grand prize challenge winners will receive $1,000 in seed funding to support taking action on their changemaking idea!
