Write Your Career in Code
The CODE Pathway prepares students for careers that involve computer science and information technology. Through work-based learning, project-based learning, and university-approved classes, students learn graphic, web, and game design along with various programming languages. The CODE Pathway is about more than just programming; it’s a three-year experience where students learn how computer science is changing the modern world. This program helps prepares students for college coursework and gives them a competitive advantage in the job market.
Career Pathway helps students explore their talents and use their experiences in the classroom to help select a career path that they are passionate about.
Prepare in the Classroom
Build a strong foundation with A-G approved courses and prepare yourself for an exciting new programming career. Classes include:
- AP Computer Science Principles focusing in Game Design with Unity
- AP Computer Science A focusing on Java programming language
- Advanced Topics in Programming(H) focusing on Python programming language and research projects
Get Real
Exposure
Take what you learn out into the real world and see first-hand what awaits you in the field of programming. Hands-on, in-depth immersive experiences may include:
- Guest Instructions
- Worksite Visits
- University Visits
Valuable Training for Exciting Careers
One step at a time, students will be putting theoretical knowledge to use and building an impressive portfolio.
Through the CODE Academy students participate in many activities and competitions like CyberPatriots which specializes in cybersecurity, SkoolCade a video game creation competition, and Hackathons.
During their time in CODE Academy, students will learn the fundamentals of programming in an engaging manner with game design, writing scripts, and building algorithms.
Second semester of their senior year in the capstone course will be completing various research and programming projects. Students use their own interest(s) to decide what they are going to work on. At the end of the year all students will showcase/present their research-projects.
Overall, taking computer science courses in high school can be a valuable experience that helps students prepare for the future, develop critical skills, and gain a deeper understanding of technology.
