Mr. Omar Espinoza graduated from San Diego State with a BA in Sociology and received his Master’s of Education and Teaching Credential through UCSB. In 2021, he earned a CTE Credential in AME. OUHSD CTE is fortunate to have Mr. Espinoza, who recently worked for the Rio School district teaching students how to create short films and videos. He and his students were awarded 2nd place in the Directing Change film contest. Mr. Espinoza is able to listen to a song and give you a rough time frame of when the song came out. He's also been baking since he was a kid, but during the pandemic he learned to bake from scratch and never looked back.
Mrs. Nicole Cook graduated from CSU Monterey Bay with a degree in Liberal Studies. While in college, she worked in a medical billing office, where she discovered her passion for healthcare. To deepen her commitment to the field, she pursued a Master's in Healthcare Informatics from National Univ. and went into Healthcare management. She is thrilled to now be sharing her diverse experiences with both RCHS and HHS students and is committed to making the learning experience enjoyable and engaging.
CULINARY and HOSPITALITY PATHWAY
Students from Channel Islands, Pacifica, Oxnard, and Rio Mesa High Culinary and Hospitality Pathway Programs attended the National Heirloom Exposition at Ventura Fairgrounds. In partnership with the Oxnard Union High School District's Farm to School Program, students from CIHS, PHS, OHS, and RMHS were invited to attend the 2024 National Heirloom Exposition at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Students gained valuable insights into heirloom produce, particularly squash, and for many, it was their first experience at a trade show. COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY- RANCHO CAMPANA high school
Mrs. Blumenthal's students are collaborating with the OUHSD Farm to School team to create images for the Harvest of the Month salad. "It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to work with a real client," Mrs. Blumenthal shared. The students styled the food using props to match their chosen artistic vision, produced and edited the images, and communicated with the client for feedback throughout the process.
Architecture & Product Design Pathways - Adolfo camarillo high school
Over the summer, students in the Student-Led Makerspace, led by Mr. Peter Wachtel, designed and created 128 surfing trophies for the second consecutive year. The class received a $1,000 donation from alumnus Tawney Safran, which will be used for student scholarships for trade schools and college.
Additionally, the Makerspace program was awarded a $10,000 grant from Stanley Black & Decker/Dewalt, which will be shared with other Career Technical Education departments at ACHS. Mr. Wachtel's Architecture & Product Design pathway has secured over $100,000 in national grants and earnings for its programs.
LAW AND PUBLIC SERVICES ACADEMY - oxnard high school
Sophomores in Oxnard High School's Law and Public Safety Academy (LAPS), led by Mr. Jaime Moreno, kicked off the year with a visit to the University of Southern California. During the trip, students had the opportunity to sit in a traditional theater-style classroom and learn about the various programs offered at USC. They were also excited to meet former Yellow Jacket and Law Academy alumnus, Ian Maile.
The LAPS students also had an opportunity to learn about biometrics by participating in a Forensics and fingerprinting lab.
