Face Mask Expectation

In addition to district health and safety protocols that are in our Safety Plan, each campus staff, student, and families are expected to wear a face mask while on school/district property. Please reach out to your campus leaders if you have any questions or concerns. We appreciate your patience and cooperation, as we work together to keep our students, faculty and staff healthy and safe.

Student & Staff Requirements

All staff and students must wear face masks while on Channel Islands property. This includes buses, all hallways, and in common areas. Students and staff will wear face masks when entering and/or exiting the school property and when not actively engaged in rigorous physical activity.

In the Classroom

All staff and students (grades 9-12) will be required to wear face masks in the classroom.

Limited Exceptions

Limited exceptions to these rules will only be made for eating, drinking, therapy, or a medical condition or disability that prevents a person from wearing a face mask.

All Visitors Required

All visitors (including parents, contractors, and vendors) are required to wear face masks.

Only for Medical Accommodations or Necessary Instructional Purposes

Updated guidance from the CDC states face shields are not an acceptable substitute for face masks. Full-face clear shields as an accommodation may only be used in place of a mask to protect eyes, nose, and mouth whenever a face mask is not feasible due to a medical condition or whenever the education context may benefit from the ability to see an individual’s face.
