Breaking Ground on the Raiders Aquatic Center

Brianna Mellon

Channel Islands High School is making history! Thanks to the support of our Measure E voters, the school’s first-ever pool is officially underway, marking a major milestone for both students and the community.

A New Aquatics Center for CIHS
The new Aquatics Center is expected to be completed by December 2026 and will provide students with state-of-the-art facilities for swimming and water polo. This project represents a significant investment in our students’ athletic and extracurricular opportunities, as well as a commitment to enhancing recreational resources for the broader community.

Once completed, the pool will not only host school teams and competitions but will also offer swim lessons and other community programs, creating a space where students and residents alike can learn, grow, and stay active. This is only the second pool in South Oxnard, with the first located at Hueneme High School, highlighting just how impactful this addition will be for the area.

A Special Moment at the Groundbreaking
The groundbreaking ceremony was filled with excitement and gratitude. A standout moment came when Raiders Swim Coach Carly Jones presented Superintendent Dr. McCoy with a golden swim cap — a symbol traditionally reserved for standout athletes. This gesture honored the leadership, vision, and support that made the project possible, and celebrated the community coming together to create future opportunities for students.
